Never accept less than the love you deserve. Not ever.
If you’re new here Think of me as your personal dating and relationship coach — and this Substack as your playbook. Every single week I give you one play to run in your life. Real strategy. Real talk. No fluff. I’m Amanda Carroll — dating strategist, former national radio host, and the woman who is going to help you win at love the same way a great coach helps you win on the field. You study the plays. You run them. You win. Welcome to the playbook.
Take the free quiz: “What’s Actually Keeping You Single?”
Let me tell you about a woman I’m going to call Claire.
Claire is 43. She leads a division of 200 people. She has a salary that would make your eyes water, a beautifully designed apartment, and the kind of confidence that fills a room the moment she walks in.
She also hadn’t been in a relationship that lasted longer than eight months in over a decade.
Every man she dated looked different on the surface — different industries, different cities, different personalities. But when Claire described them to me, she kept using the same words. Hot and cold. Hard to read. Never fully present.
She sat across from me on Zoom and said: “I feel like I’m cursed. Like there’s something about me that only pulls in men who can’t show up.”
I looked at her and I said something she didn’t expect:
“Claire. You’re not cursed. You have a blind spot.”
You didn’t fail at love. You just never saw the pattern.
She went quiet for a long moment. Then she said: “Tell me more.”
That’s what this is about. And if you’ve ever felt like Claire — brilliant at everything except this — I wrote it for you.
The Thing Nobody Tells High-Achieving Women
We are extraordinary problem-solvers. Give us a broken system, a stalled team, an impossible deadline — we will fix it. We audit. We optimize. We find the gap and we close it.
But love?
Love we chalk up to luck. To timing. To the fact that all the good ones are taken. To the algorithm. To men in general.
And here’s the truth nobody says out loud:
The apps aren’t the problem. The pattern you bring to them is.
Most of us — and I mean most, not some — are carrying a subconscious blueprint. A script written long before we had the career, the apartment, the life. A script that was written when we were young and watching the people around us love each other — or fail to.
And that script? It is running your dating life. Quietly. Persistently. Without your permission.
Until you find your blind spot.
Where This Play Was Born
I’ve been running this play in my coaching practice for years.
Session after session, I would sit across from a woman who had cracked every other hard thing in her life — and I would watch her face when I finally named the pattern she’d been carrying. The moment of recognition is always the same. A pause. A breath. Sometimes tears. And then: “Oh. That’s been the whole thing.”
Claire had that moment. So did a woman I’ll call Dana — a surgeon who had perfected every system in her life except this one. And Priya, who built a company from nothing and couldn’t figure out why she kept choosing men who needed rescuing.
Different women. Same blind spot. Different shape, same root.
The pattern doesn’t care how successful you are. It doesn’t care how self-aware you are. It runs quietly in the background of every date, every situationship, every relationship that almost worked — until you shine a light directly on it.
That’s what this play does.
You can’t fix what you can’t name. And you can’t name what you can’t see.
The 5 Patterns I See in High-Achieving Single Women
After working with hundreds of accomplished, financially independent women, I’ve identified five patterns that keep showing up. Not bad luck. Not bad timing. Patterns.
Read through all five. You’ll know yours when you feel a little uncomfortable.
The Workaholic Who Keeps Love on the Back Burner
She loves her work — genuinely. But somewhere along the way, love became the thing she’ll get to ‘when things slow down.’ The problem? Things never slow down. The right relationship doesn’t come after success. It comes alongside it — but only if you decide right now that it’s a priority.
Love doesn’t come after success. It comes alongside it — but only if you decide it’s a priority now.
The Perfectionist Who Won’t Settle
Her standards aren’t too high — they’re misdirected. She’s running a checklist when she should be chasing a feeling. The man who might change her life doesn’t have the right job title. She filters him out in round one and never knows what she missed.
“High standards aren’t keeping you single. A checklist might be.
The Fiercely Independent Woman Who Accidentally Pushes Men Away
She worked incredibly hard to not need anyone. And now ‘I don’t need you’ is landing as ‘I don’t want you.’ The strength that built her entire life is quietly working against her in love. This isn’t about becoming less independent. It’s about understanding what the independence is protecting.
Your independence built your career. Your independence might be the thing quietly dismantling your love life.
The Woman Who Keeps Attracting the Wrong Men
This is Claire’s pattern. The most painful one because it genuinely feels like it’s happening to her. It isn’t. There’s a blueprint she’s been working from — one that was written long before she was old enough to choose. Once she sees it, the whole game changes.
You’re not attracting the wrong men. You’re recognizing them as familiar.
The Guarded One Who’s Afraid to Be Vulnerable Again
She got hurt. She built walls. Those walls have served her well — she hasn’t been blindsided since. But walls don’t discriminate. They keep out the men who would hurt her AND the man who would love her well. The right man cannot reach a woman who won’t be reached.
The right man cannot reach a woman who won’t be reached.
What Happened to Claire
When Claire got her result — The Woman Who Keeps Attracting the Wrong Men — she didn’t immediately feel better. She felt a little winded.
Because the result didn’t just tell her what was happening. It told her why. That the emotional dynamic she kept choosing in men — the push and pull, the hot and cold, the uncertainty — wasn’t random. It was familiar. It mirrored something she’d grown up with. And her nervous system had been calling it ‘love’ ever since.
“She thought she kept choosing the wrong men. She was actually choosing the only kind of love she’d ever known. That’s the blind spot.
Six months later she sent me a voice note. She was laughing a little when she said it:
“He’s so consistent it used to make me nervous. Now it just makes me feel safe.”
That’s what finding your blind spot does. It doesn’t just change who you attract. It changes who you let in.
